Independent Living Communities are multi-unit senior housing developments that may provide supportive services such as meals, housekeeping, social activities, and transportation. This term may also be used to describe housing with few or no services such as Senior Apartments where residents live independent of any outside support.
Assisted Living Residences (ALR's) are a housing solution for people who are not ready for a nursing home but should not live alone. ALR's offer care for people who need help with activities of daily living.
Residents of ALR's typically need help with one or more of the following: bathing, laundry, eating and dressing. There is a wellness center for health care to assist residents with housekeeping and three meals-a-day. Appropriate social activities and exercise are organized for residents.
The goal of an assisted living residence is to help people live as independently as possible.
